Delta Estate is proud to announce that one of our core wines, the Delta Estate Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2021 has placed in the Top 10 Marlborough Sauvignon Blancs in the UK, by the Decanter New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc Tasting Panel.
Decanter magazine was founded in London in 1975 making it the oldest consumer wine publication in the United Kingdom. Celebrating global fine wine tastings, events, vintage guides as well as industry news and experiences, the magazine is a prominent author for wine reviews and ratings. Their annual New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc panel tasting had over 115 wines submitted for tasting in the 2022 edition.
Released in the September 2022 Issue of Decanter Magazine, Delta Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2021 scored a strong 93 Points placing them within the top 10 rated wines of Newzealand in the UK Market. The Review reads, “Refined excellence. Textured and layered, and the depth of flavour is immense. The cool balance between citrus freshness and cool restrained tropical fruit is perfect. Layers of complexity. 93 points” Decanter September 2022.
Our 2021 Delta Estate Sauvignon Blanc grapes were selected from a single vineyard in the Dillons Point area of Marlborough.
Ripening steadily throughout the growing period, the fruit was continually monitored until a balance of flavour, acidity and physiological ripeness was reached. The 2021 Sauvignon Blanc has an expressive and weighty palate, with intense aromas of grapefruit, lemon zest and a hint of sea salt from the sub-region’s proximity to the Tasman Ocean.
Receiving recognition for our Delta Sauvignon Blanc from the Decanter tasting panel is a real honour. Delta Winemaker, Heather Stewart quotes, “I was so pleased with the 2021 vintage of this wine. The vineyard, located in the premium Dillons Point sub-region, produced exceptional fruit this vintage, bursting with all the characters that I love in Sauvignon Blanc. It has intense, pure varietal tropical flavours, but I think its beauty lies in the underlying elegance, restraint and minerality – that lovely hint of sea salt. We did very simple winemaking, to retain the signature of the vineyard site.”
